Just the job for St James

Just the job for St James
A MAJOR new retail initiative in Edinburgh will benefit from the expertise of Employment Enterprise Consultancy from next week.

The Academy @ St James' Shopping Centre will provide retailers with fully prepared, high quality candidates for jobs - and all totally free of charge to the clients. Employment Enterprise Consultancy, already an established employer intermediary in Lanarkshire and the central belt, recently set up office in Edinburgh to offer its services to job seekers in the East of the country. Its latest venture, which will operate in partnership with Telford College, will see prospective entry-level staff trained in employability skills, CV construction and interview technique.

Adam Dunkerley, facility co-ordinator for the Academy project, said:

"We aim to filter out the candidates that are not suitable for the jobs available to ensure that retailers are only offered candidates that meet a job description or pre-agreed criteria.

We will use individual job descriptions and retailers' specific requirements and provide the most suitable candidates that match these preconditions.

In this way, we will cut down on the time and effort that is required, on the part of retailers in the centre, to recruit the most suitable members of staff."

Thanks to the financial backing of Telford College, EEC is able to provide this service free of charge, which means retailers will not have to pay for the interviewing or employing of any candidates referred to them. Likewise, the service is free to prospective employment candidates.

We will cut down on the time and effort that is required to recruit the most suitable members of staff.

Adam Dunkerley, Academy Co-ordinator.

Adam continued:

"Our role is to attract people into the centre, assess their skills and needs and match them up to the needs and requirements of employers.

We are not a recruitment agency, we are an employer intermediary - which means we can provide basic skills training and put candidates in touch with potential employers.

Candidates at the Academy will be rated on a Gold, Silver and Bronze scale, according to their readiness for work and their suitability to the jobs available within the St James Centre.

We will signpost those applicants who require more assistance and training, referring them on to other agencies and to Telford College.

The 'Gold' candidates - those who are ready to work - will be given a short employability refresher course in order to update their CVs, assess what types of job they will be most suited to and prepare them for an interview.

We will then pass on the names and CVs of the candidates that are most suitable for positions that retailers are looking to fill."
