The programme, which is funded by North and South Lanarkshire Councils, started as a six-month pilot scheme in April of this year but, due to its success, will now operate until at least March 2008. Over 300 young people have already benefited from the input of Aftercare's dedicated mentors, who have helped ensure that the vast majority of their clients stay in employment.
EEC's Operational Manager, Tony Stapleton, said:
"This is great news - it's the most emphatic vote of confidence in the work of our team, Nichola and Eileen. Currently the Aftercare programme's results are well in excess of its targets - we are achieving 98% sustainability at 3 months and 96% sustainability at 6 months. The success of this initial Pilot, which was funded by North and South Lanarkshire Council's NEET funds, has led these organisations to extend the pilot to March 2008, again using NEET funds.
NEET funds are money directly targeting those young people Not in Employment, Education or Training. "We have worked with more than 300 young people since April 2008 and the new target has been set at 680 in total until March 2008."
