Training for Work (TFW) is a voluntary programme designed to help long-term unemployed people. The participants we assist are ready to return to work but are hampered by lack of experience, out-of-date CVs and / or rusty employability skills. Our programmes cover General Construction work, Railway Maintenance, Retail and Administration.
Backed by experts, the TFW programme is funded by Skills Development Scotland (previously Scottish Enterprise) and operated through Jobcentre Plus and a network of approved training providers. Together, we are helping companies in Scotland to create an inclusive, sustainable workforce.
To source participants and vacancies, Employment Enterprise works in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and other referring agencies to engage candidates who are eligible for TFW.
After candidates are referred, we interview them to ascertain what type of work they are interested in. We then liaise with employers, who tell us how many entry level staff they need and specify the skills they require.
We assign participants to specific training programmes, geared towards employment with companies who have approached us asking for staff.
During the training periods that follow, employers visit our premises and spend 1:1 time with each individual participants.
General and specialised training - Employment Enterprise offers high quality training in Employability Skills, CV Development, Interview Techniques, Application Form Completion and Personal Development and Presentation.
We also provide CSCS and PTS cards whihc are required for successful progress into construction work. To allow participants to gain vital experience, programmes can run for a maximum of 10 weeks, but may be shorter, depending on an individual's rate of progress.
All TFW programmes involve a strong element of work placement which gives the participant up-to-date work experience, a current reference and breaks the “bad habits” developed during unemployment. Many participants gain work whilst on placement.
We offer mentoring and a rigorous, ongoing support service. Employment Enterprise also provides participants with advice and guidance on how to access funding for qualifications.
Our role is to bring the components together, to help you to help yourself get back into employment.
